Something that might be worth giving a thought: a demuxing unit like the 
ME72 from Botex (and others) gives 72 channels of DMX-to-0/10 V. That 
might be of some interest because designing electronic interfaces when 
the command signal is already in the analog domain is rather easy. And 
there you have 72 channels!!!
