As music players/sequencers (e.g. Ableton) can only send MIDI triggers (in the form of program changes / bank select), I decide to write an example MAX patch to convert the MIDI triggers to TCP commands. Once finished I can create a program of the patch so it can just run on a Macintosh or Windows XP computer.

I don't have MAX, but if I understand you correctly that the "program of the patch" will run on computers without MAX, I'm eagerly awaiting it. We use software called "Sound Cue System" to play pre-recorded sound cues and it can send MIDI messages in addition to sound playback. I'd love to integrate lighting "Go Next" cues into SCS so that a single operator can press a single GO button for all light and sound cues. (The operator's computer is often not close enough to the lanbox to run a MIDI cable even if the computer had a physical MIDI port.)
