Kurt, Short answer: "Yes" I have fiddled with a few different approaches to the Note On / Note Off issue. One is the "Ignore Note Off" Controller 65 = 127 that Jon mentioned. I've had issues with this, and it may just be a human error... but when I used the Ignore Note Off command it was causing the LanBox to behave strangely, switching around certain channels, eventually requiring a reset. Another option: you can use MIDI sustain techniques depending on your triggering methods. My current method is by "looping" clips in Ableton Live. So I'm actually sending a Note On every loop and it remains until the clip is deactivated or another clip in the same track (= DMX address, in my setup) is launched. The actual length or duration of the clips varies depending on how I'm using it. I'll tend to use long (64 to 128 measure) clips so that when multiple clips are running it doesn't overload the DMX throughput. In this manner, I'll use a clip for a single function, like setting a DMX address to a specific value, eg turning LED's in a fixture to "100% Blue". That's simple: just a single MIDI note (the Blue LED channel) at held at full velocity for the duration of the clip. However, more intricate clips can be built to create a sequence or "chase". For example the clip can set an LED panel like this: R-100% G-0% B-0%, R-0% G-100% B-0%, R-0% G-0% B-100%, R-100% G-100% B-100%, each for one beat in a 4/4 measure. This clip (loop) repeats so the visual result is: R, G, B, White, repeat.... I'm currently not using any intensity fades, or when I do, it's via a physical fader (MIDI velocity programmed). I do plan on working on the type of approach you mentioned, mapping velocity to a CC to use curves. Actually, Ableton Live has lots of cool gadgets such as oscillators that I could apply to a channel to create some more dynamic effects. Blair
