SubjectRe: [LCtalk] Submaster Fader Implementation Idea

The LanBox has "Intensity masters" on each lighting channel already, so if I understand correctly you want another level of "masters"?

Somewhat. I want a level of masters (DMX and/or internal) that I can map to specific channels, and under layer control, not manual GUI control. In addition, they need to effect the mixer in percentage 0-100%, not raising/lowering the active channels by steps. Under the current master settings the following happens as the master is raised and lowered:

 Start Master Ch1 Ch2 Ch3
       255 120 80 40
       250 115 75 35
       210 75 45 0 (note, ch3 has already hit 0)
       160 25 0 0

Now, going back up
       250 115 90 90 (note, ch2 and 3 have the same values)
       255 120 95 95

The end result, ch2 and 3 did not return to their original values. That's why this is not a true submaster. A submaster would have done:

       255 (100%) 120 80 40
       250 ( 98%) 117 78 39
       210 ( 82%) 98 66 33
       160 ( 63%) 76 50 25
       250 ( 98%) 117 78 39
       255 (100%) 120 80 40

On a RGB fixture you have three channels (each with it's own "master"), and an Intensity wheel which acts on all three channels at the same time, and proportional. What does not change proportional?

.......

Therefore, the color of the light changes instead of the intensity.

Please enlighten, it's getting complete dark for me;-)

If I use the master Intensity wheel, I get the action described above. And an LED fixture set to 120, 80 and 40 does not display the same color as one at 120, 95, 95. Likewise, at the dimmer setting, 25, 0, 0 is not a darker (but same tint) color of the original, it is a completely different tint.
