Hello all,

allthough I don't use my Lanbox LCX for any show anymore (same reason as Rob van der Knaap stated in this thread), I still follow this list and won't sell my Lanbox HW (nor use a sledge hammer) because I agree with most subscribers that the HW and ideas in LCEdit are fine. For example, using layers is a smart and flexible way to cope with functions of intelligent light. Even if you want 'an easy way' to setup a cue, the layers won't bother you, just work in one layer. The power is in the numerous way, users want to program their intelligent fixtures. Setup a layer for colour only, or for positions only etc, etc and combine them in cues or during live venues. Sure it takes time to get used to the idea of using layers.

So far the good part of the Lanbox story (at least for me). Having mentioned the fine ideas of the box and LCEdit, the implementation is the problem in this case. By this time I'm most certain I'm not the only one that was struglling with elementary functions of the program. Even patching my fixtures drove me crazy. After some discussion with Matthijs in this list, my general conclusion was not to put more time in trying to understand "what the program wanted from me" since CDS disagreed with the comments on the way the user-interface was designed and implemented. Not to mention how they value the importance of the manuals.

That's why I'm glad that people like Mathias Glastra took the trouble to start building an application that may at the end combine the fine HW and ideas with a comprehensive user application. I'm sure Fokko and Matthijs (again) disagree with me, and of course they are allowed to. But like I mentioned some year ago, I'm convinced that if they would create LCEdit from scratch (not using the silly platform that allows them to use the same codebase for Mac, Windows and Linux and for that reasing missing some well adapted and elementary UI-aspects of each specific platform), they would sell a lot more boxes.

No need to say that this comment is meant as positive critisism, hoping that it will lead to improved usability of the Lanbox concept. Waiting for Fokko or Matthijs to respond.....

Best regards,

Rob van Lieshout
