Rob, I do not agree with your comments. The Lanbox is absolutely fine for live theatre use. I use my Lanbox for running many shows, both large and small. In my local theatre I ask for the Strand 530 to be removed prior to the getin, so I have room for my Lanbox and Mac! The learning curve is no worse than, for example, changing from a Strand 520/530 to a Jands Expression. Moving from a protocol you are familiar with to a new protocol always takes some time to get used to. By using separate layers to control different groups of fixtures, the Lanbox offers an enormous degree of flexibility which a regular theatre desk would find hard to match. Whenever I have demonstrated my Lanbox to lighting designers, many of whom are Strand 5XX users, they have always been totally amazed at what can be done with the Lanbox. I use my Lanbox together with a second computer running Capture, which is a visualisation application. I am able to plot my entire show before going anywhere near the theatre. I cannot over emphasise just how fantastic this is. The time in the theatre is not used up by endless hours of plotting and my stress levels drop dramatically as a result. I would recommend that you dust off your Lanbox and start again with a clean sheet. You might find that second time around you get on better with it! Best, John
