SubjectRe: [LCtalk] Bump buttons

I would connect a MIDI controller to my laptop using USB (not running a MIDI cable to the Lanbox since that would have the same distance issue as running a long DMX cable). Then use MIDI software on my laptop to translate MIDI NoteOn and NoteOff messages onto the wireless network.

You are write. Thats what you could do.

Would that be using Lanbox UDP?

No not with UDP but with TCP.

Is it like the syntax of how macros are written in the Palm LCEdit software? Any suggestions on software to do the conversion? Would a controller typically come with software that could do that?

This is not something the controller already does nor is there any software that I know of that does this. It is like the macros I think. What it does is that a cue go command can be send on midi notes that are send.

If I've understood correctly, this doesn't involve LCEdit+ at all. You're talking about a separate piece of software that can send customizable TCP/IP messages in response to MIDI messages.

You are completely right. There would be a separate peace of software that connects to the Lanbox. It would receive midi message from any midi device connected to your pc. Then it would respond to it with a command send to the Lanbox. Only with the triggers you would add. It is possible with cue go command but if written in the software a engine pause or something.

I hope you understand what I say. And the principle is clear. One thing I want to point out is the difference between PDA LCedit and my way of doing it. The PDA LCedit does not have the release functionality. You can not hold several buttons and release them one by one. With the midi that is possible. You would not have the wireless thing but you could use any midi device on the market.

The only thing is that I would need to create the windows program. I already have the communication framework for the Lanbox and the midi. Only the windows program should be written. It would be done in .NET so you would need to run .NET framework. But that is installed with windows or upgraded by the updates. Or you could freely download it. There could even be a possibility to run it on Linux and Mac. So usable for anyone. (Don't keep me on my word but it should be worthwhile trying. See the www.mono-project.org for details.)
