Hi Fokko and list,

It was the firmware that was causing the problem. UDP now works correctly.
One further question: will the LCX work with a flip cable or must UDP control occur via a hub/switch?

The reason we did this development was to be able to use automation curves in audio software to show a graphic representation of lighting fader levels at any given time during our audio program. Following our experience developing this solution, I am forced to wonder why you are so reluctant to implement direct midi to DMX translation in LCedit and the lanbox firmware. I understand the bandwidth limitations of midi, but for simple applications such as ours which is far below the 40 or so simultaneous DMX channel limit, a direct mapping of midi controller channels to sub-masters is a more elegant solution. Although the solution using MAX works, the overhead, requiring as it does a complex external software package and an additional communication channel, is very high. Many lighting desks including AVAB and even Behringer have implemented straightforward midi controller to fader mapping which works perfectly well. I presume that a user-editable midi controller to group/stage instrument mapping within the Lanbox would be fairly trivial to implement. Perhaps in a future version? After all, the reason that we bought the Lanbox in the first place was that there is both a midi and a DMX port on the box.

Regards,

Thomas McIntosh
