Subject[LCtalk] Lassi

Hello all,

Some eight years ago I developed a bit of software to control the lighting for our local theatre group in Essen, Belgium (www.pinokkelijn.be). At the time, a dongle from Artistic Licence was used to communicate to the (cds) dimmers over dmx.

About a year ago, as a hobby-project, I started adapting the program to work with the Lanbox instead of the dongle. The program is now called Lassi: "Lighting ASSIstant" (or "Lanbox ASSIstant" if you want).

Lassi was for the first time used on a "real" theatre production of Woyzeck in March 2007, and again in a production of "Mariken van Nieumeghen" last week. Although the program is not really 100% production ready or bug free, and some important functions are still missing, I guess it is now in a state where it could become useful for other people in a theatre environment also.

Lassi is intended to be used alongside LCEdit+ and provides some additional means for editing cue lists, patching channels to dimmers, monitoring channel levels, etc. It is intended for use with conventional lights only, there is no support for moving light fixtures.

For people interested in learning more about the Lanbox, the program also includes some tools to watch the communication between Lassi or LCEdit+ and the Lanbox.

As an experiment, a web server was embedded in Lassi. This makes it possible for the user to create web pages from which Lanbox "Go" commands can be issued.

The software should be operating system independent.

More details and some demos can be found on http://www.lassi.be. The program and the source code can be downloaded for free from http://sourceforge.net/projects/lassi. This is also the place to go for any bug reports or forum discussion or if you want to contribute to the project development in any way (for example through testing, writing further code or documentation).

Have a closer look if the above made you curious...

Regards,
Marc
