1) How to you grab a scene if you're not in edit mode?

I frequently spend ages getting the lighting state just right, only to realise I'm not in edit mode. Once you go into edit mode it tends to run the cue and hence loose the state on stage. What's the best way around this?

a simple trick to prevent this is by changing the cuestep in the cue field to one that doesn't exist yet (don't press enter!) and then click the edit button. Since the step doesn't exist yet, it won't overwrite the lighting values in the layer. You can then change any channel or press enter in any DMX field, and the whole layer data should be copied into the new step.

BTW, I think you probably meant

 Lose \Lose\ (l[=oo]z), v. t. [imp. & p. p. {Lost}
    1. To part with unintentionally or unwillingly
    2. To cease to have; to possess no longer

rather than:

 Loose \Loose\ (l[=oo]s), v. n. [imp. & p. p. {Loosed}
    1. To untie or unbind; to free from any fastening
    2. To release from anything obligatory or burdensome
    3. To relax; to loosen; to make less strict.

I know I'm being a bit of a nit-pick here, but I see this mistake more and more on online forums, and for some reason it irks me :-)

5) Patching

If you re-patch a fixture, do you have to update all of its cues?

No. The whole point of patching is being able to do it afterwards

Say for example a dimmer channel has permanently failed, and the fixture has been physically plugged into a spare channel. Is it enough to re-patch the fixture in LCedit+?

Yes. Be sure to change the DMX channel, not the light channel.

On a Strand desk (my background), if you update the patch then all is well. However in LanBox I get the feeling that the patch affects what goes into a cue list (ie which DMX channels) and repatching will have no effect on existing cues.

No, the patch table has no effect on cuelist editing whatsoever.

6) Multiple DMX universes with multiple LCX's.

There was a discussion some time ago about using multiple boxes for generating more DMX universes by broadcasting over UDP (if I recall correctly). This seemed to focus on an LCX as the master broadcasting to LCM or LCE's. Is is possible to do the same with multiple LCX's?

Yes. The master needs to be an LCX because of its better capacity to control lots of channels. The slaves can be either LCE or LCX. Using an LCX is just a bit overkill.

Note that the LCM has no Ethernet connection, so it can not be used as a slave for UDP broadcasting.
