How many engines does each Lanbox have. I read in the command manual that there are 8 engines. But somewhere else I read that there are 64 layers. Are engines the same as layers or is it something different?

The old LanBox-LC+ has 8 fixed engines, with IDs "A" through "H".

With the software for the newer LanBox models (LCX, LCM, and LCE), several changes were introduced:

1. Because of the new abilities, engines were renamed to "layers", due to the similarity with layers in graphics editing programs and such.

2. They could now be dynamically reordered, deleted, and created up to a maximum of 31 layers.

3. Rather than getting fixed IDs, they could be assigned one of 63 IDs (A-Z,AA-AZ,BA-BK), or be left without one.

So while there are 64 different layer IDs (including none), the actual limit (currently) is 31 simultaneous layers at any given time.

I hope this clarifies things,
