The manuals are very densely packed with information. I think I was still learning new things on at least the fourth of fifth read through and I definitely found the interface confusing when I first started.

Now, I've never used a $10,000+ lighting console so I don't have a frame of reference there but I've used ETC Idea and MicrovisionFX as well as various Leprechan boards and the Lanbox blows them away in my opinion.

I mostly do theatre (community level, we can't afford moving lights) but I recently lit a wedding for a couple of friends. I sat at a table with friends, dinner, a glass of wine, and my laptop and wrote cues in between going out on the dancefloor to dance.

By the end of the night I had half a dozen cues running simultaneously in different layers plus a few control cues to switch between tempos. And I was tweaking cues as they ran, adjusting levels and durations here and there without ever interrupting anything.

I just walked a new LD through her first use of the Lanbox and her show came off beautifully. She's not using any of the advanced features, but she had no problem learning how to program cues using dimmers, color scrollers, and a strobe light to simulate lighting in another layer.

If anybody in central New Jersey, USA ever wants a hands on walkthrough just drop me an email. I'll be glad to invite you to Villagers Theatre in Somerset (just outside of New Brunswick) and show you our setup. You can even sit in on a tech week if you'd like.
