Rob:
I have been reading your complain and I have to say I do not agree.
I'm a theatre set and light designer. I have been using the LCX for
several years now and I would like to tell you that I love it... For
theatre work! On the road it's very easy to use. Of course there is a
learning curve: the thing is that it doesn't work like a conventional
desk, so you have to be open mind to start learning, it will not take
to long, but you must understand the way it works. For example:
Layers. I cannot work without using a lot of layers now. I prefer the
graphical user Interfase than having to move a lot of buttons and
faders. As I use it connected with an airport base station, I can
move around with my laptop, during rehearsals, so I can see and make
corrections from different places of the venue, I love that... and I
don't think you can do the same with a Strand console. After the
learning curve you'll see how easy it is to work with it. I have also
used 2 Lanbox connected together for a musical with lot of moving
lights, and a lot of cues and It was really easy to set up. I'm also
a Mac user and LCedit works great. I don't understand why you are
thinking the software is unfinished, I have no problems with it. You
should really try to learn LCedit, you will see that it does much
more than you think.
