Without a technical writer, and with what appears to be a number of assumptions by engineer/designer/programmer, the product is harder to learn than it needs to be. In my opinion, the potential income lost by not having an easier to understand product is very little compared to an investment in a technical writer and a well designed manual. That's a good point and CDS should really see if they can hire a technical writer on a short term contract to rewrite the manual. I was aware of the Lanbox for several years before we got one we stuck with an ETC MicrovisionFX because the Lanbox documentation on the web was too confusing and we couldn't afford any multi-thousand dollar board. Now that we have a Lanbox I don't feel any need for any other console, but I would have pushed for purchasing one much sooner if the documentation hadn't been so confusing. BTW, did I mention that we have two venues in the building hooked up to the same Lanbox and I can wander back and forth between the two with my wireless laptop and control lights in either or both. I've even teched one show while another show was going on in the other venue at the same time on the same Lanbox. Seriously, there was a show going on with audience in one venue and I was editing cues for the other venue in a lower layer. Zero problems.
