SubjectRe: [LCtalk] Midi Audio Software in USA

Kyle,

I have been looking for a software and small hardware solution to play .MP3 files when a light cue is triggered. As this would save a lot of time. I know this can be done using MIDI or UDP? and I have to have a USB to MIDI input dongle. But I am not sure of what inexpensive software I would use (winamp) or what brand Dongle is available in the USA.

Are you using the LanBox with a computer already? If so, you basically already have a MP3 player with audio out (using the computer's outputs). If you wanted a higher quality audio output, you could add a fairly inexpensive audio interface.

Typically to do what you described, I would use a Digital Audio Sequencer (such as Digital Performer or Logic for Mac, CakeWalk, etc. for Windows), do the audio in there and then use MIDI to trigger the cues in the LanBox from the Sequencer software.

I believe using something like MAX/MSP you could control the LanBox as well as play MP3 audio through the computer's outputs.

If the LanBox was "on it's own" without a computer, there are some dedicated hardware MP3 players out there and you could trigger through a LanBox LCX I/O port. But that's probably overkill for the application you described.
