I'm sure this is a very basic question but I'm not sure where to start looking. I have two LCXs that behave differently in two specific ways.

Check if they have different firmware version. (Shown in the "Interface Status" field on the control window)

The current firmware version is v2.06

One LCX shuts off all lighting and stops the engine when I type in 0 and press "Go" (which is what I want it to do) while the other stops the engine but the lighting remains on. Can someone please tell me what setting I'm missing?

Well, go 0 resets the engine, which includes clearing it. This doesn't necessarily mean lighting goes off though, it just means that particular layer doesn't contribute to it anymore.

If you want lights to go off (or any other default), make sure those defaults are set in a "background layer", placed lowest in the layer list. Then whenever higher layers are cleared, lights will revert to the defaults you set in the background layer.

The same LCX doesn't ask me to save changes every time I close it while the other one does. Invariably someone uses it and accidentally saves changes which has caused a couple of big problems for me over the years.

That's strange, I can't readily explain that. You mean the "don't forget to save lanbox data" notice?
