Jon, Fokko--

I think you may have misunderstood what he means. That, or I have, in which case please correct me. Just to review, on a conventional lighting board, a submaster is essentially a fader dedicated to controlling a cue. That is, it stores not only a group of channels, but also a set of levels for them. When the submaster is at full, the lights are at these levels; when you fade the submaster down, the channels adjust to the given percentage of those levels.

This is exactly what our "Master Intensity" also does, but it's not connected to a cue, but to a bunch of channels (most of the time the same channels as you are using in cues for this group).

In our case the submaster keeps in charge, also for next cue, so effectively you reduce (or increase) all light channels (no, all Intensity channels) of this group of channels.

Are submasters really working during one cue only?

What you're proposing is essentially just a group -- a bunch of channels controlled together, but at the same levels. Or have I misunderstood?

That is our group Intensity wheel, but that is different from the Master Intensity. We used to call the Master Intensity "Gain", as it far more clear what it does, but that term is unknown in the lighting world :-) Still, it's gain as all DMX values are multiplied by this factor, so 0.5 is effectively 50% of the original value.
