Jon, Fokko--
I think you may have misunderstood what he means. That, or I have, in
which case please correct me. Just to review, on a conventional
lighting board, a submaster is essentially a fader dedicated to
controlling a cue. That is, it stores not only a group of channels, but
also a set of levels for them. When the submaster is at full, the
lights are at these levels; when you fade the submaster down, the
channels adjust to the given percentage of those levels. What you're
proposing is essentially just a group -- a bunch of channels controlled
together, but at the same levels. Or have I misunderstood? I think the
closest LCEdit comes to a submaster other than a group is the ability to
load a cue in a different layer and then fade the master for that layer
up and down.
