If it's just to protect against accidents, maybe just set the read-only 
attribute in the project file's properties (via the Windows explorer), 
or set it as locked on OSX, depending on platform.

Whenever you really do want to save it, you can just temporarily unset 
that flag again, save, and re-set it.
