Fokko, If I understand well your cue first stop the chase and then fade the chaser of !
If I want fade out a chase while is running the only way, I thing, it's to made the layer, where the chase is running, transparent in 10 seconds and then clear the layer

OK, that's a bit more complex :-) As there are several solutions, and they are depending on how you want to have the end situation, I choose to end with a hold forever in the "fade away a chase" cue:

// Cuelist 7 (6 steps), stored 28-03-2006 22:11
set layer to mix transparent from 100% to 0% in 10s
show d02 for 10s, crossfading for 10s // fade away the running chase
go 7.5 in layer A // put myself in hold forever with the same fade away scene in A
go 001 // kill layer zz
show 7.2 for ever // we are waiting here at the end

   56[000]   57[000]   58[000]   59[000]   60[000]   61[000]
   62[000]   63[000]   64[000]   65[000]

Run this cue as g7zz, and it all happens. You end in layer A, and zz is gone.

Have fun,
