This is a useful background to layers, and has certainly helped me -

You detail the use of layers to achieve different functions within a 
given fixture.  Is there an easy way to separate these functions out 
when programming cues?  From what I remember, the software generally 
includes all of the channels from a given fixture when it is selected 
and adjusted in a cue.  It would be a nuisance to have to manually 
de-select the un-wanted channels each time.
