OK, besides the MSC (MIDI Show Control) solution offered by Philippe, 
there are some new exiting developments:

The makers of Isadora ( http://www.TroikaTronix.com/ ) and CDS agreed 
to implement full LanBox support in Isadora on a short term.

This includes full control via serial (USB), MIDI and TCP/IP, but 
also video support using LanBox UDP distributing. This addition means 
that making presentations/shows with video/audio/MIDI/DMX very  easy, 
and makes real-time video to DMX a reality.
