SubjectRe: [LCtalk] composing scenes from different queues (continued)

Hi Jan,

Here another theatre technician on the forum ( you might have read some of my previous posts)

My opinion on your questions.

Just pressume I have to queues 201 and 202. In 201 there is one active channel (100%) and in 202 also (but anotherone).

Sounds pretty simple

Now I would like to compose this two channels into one scene, using different layers (or another technique, but layers seem to be made for this).

If you want to keep things simple, use one layer, use another one if you need it. for normal theatre use you just need one layer. If you want to run a chase or effect, you add a layer. If not , don't , this keeps things clear and simple.

I also want crossfades from one scene to another, and this seems to be the problem because not all channels are active

Do what I do: if you make a new cuelist, make cue X.1,X .5, X.10, X,15, etc. (where X stands for the cuelistnumber) with channel 1 through 50 on 000. Just make one, dragging and dropping this cue with the alt/option button down will copy it. You can make comment cues (describing the following cuestep) inbetween, if the show changes, you can add cues.
Use this as your base, if you change the percentage in one cue, and don't change the next one, it'll fade to zero again.

So I would like this to happen:

- start from a blackout (queue 200 for example)
- crossfade in 3s to 201 (no problem)
- crossfade in 3s to 202 (problem: 202 is faded in, but 201 is not faded out)

That'll happen if you do it in the way i explained above. Only I use one cuelist with different cues like 201.1, 201.5, 201.6 because then I can see the whole cuelist in just one glance.

- crossfade in 3s to 201 and 202 (thus a combination in different layers).

Don't be lazy, make another cue. This will make your life a lot simpler. Just one layer to monitor, one cuesheet, no overlapping layers, no HTP no LTP, no worries, get it...
You can also call cues with keycommands like:
F1 = g200 (for instance: blackout , all channels zero)
F2= g201 (f.i. channel 12 @ 50)
F3= g202 (f.i. channel 13 @ 60)
F4=g203 (f.i. channel 12@50 and channel 13@ 60)
now you can fade between all options just by using the function keys.
Or, another option, set layer to crossade manual changes in 3 seconds (in advanced window) and make a keycommand like: s12=128 (sets channel 12 to 50%) or s1-15=255m (sets channel 1 through 15 to 100 %) or s12=128;s13=153 (sets channel 12 to 50 and 13 to 60) and these will fade in 3 seconds, etc. etc.

Hope this helps,

Grtz
Dennis
