Sorry, I was confused. Fixture renumbering is possible with the menu 
command Renumber Selection (File menu->Extra).

Not likely, we have exact timing for fades which is a 32 bits add per 
channel per DMX packet, which is calculated when a fade starts 
(fading 3000 channels is a very CPU intensive task).
