You can assign a small wheel as a 2nd control above, assigned to the same 
channel.  That will give you two wheels unfortunately, but would accomplish 
what you want.  The top wheel would be the full range (and you'll actually 
see your buttons follow it) and the regular wheel that appears with the 
buttons does the range.
