I just made a test patch in MAX, and it is still working the same as with LC, but in general layers are now default in run mode, instead of edit mode. Here is the procedure:

1. Set the layer in Edit mode (not sequencing) with controller 73 value 0
2. Load a cue step with controllers 86, 53, 21
3. Change some channels with NoteOns
4. Do command Replace cueliststep with controller 103

Repeat 2-4 for other steps

5. Set layer back to run mode if you like with ctrl 73 value 127
