Subject[LCtalk] serial object & lanbox control using keyspan adapter

hi,

i'm trying to control an icue mirror in the following setup;
powerbook, serial out -> lanbox lcm -> icue mirror

i'm running mac os 10.3.6, max/msp 3.5.2, jitter 1.2.3
for the serial output i use a keyspan usa-19 usb-serial adapter, driver version 1.8

what works is the following configurations;
powerbook, running lcedit+ software, serial out -> lanbox lcm -> icue mirror
and
powerbook, max/msp, midi out -> lanbox lcm -> icue mirror

when using i try to control the mirror using max's serial object, there seems to be data arriving at the lanbox (led flashes), but no matter what i try, the mirror does not move at all.
trying to read from the serial port seems to fail (the read section in the "LC+ Ser-USB Example.pat" stays empty, there's no "ok" or "error" message despite the fact that lanbox should be sending those in reply to every message received)

when i load the serial object's help patch in max and send the message print to the serial object, the max window shows;
port a: modem
port b: IrDA-IrCOMMch-b
port c: USA19191P1.1
status: port modem IrDA-IrCOMMch-b USA19191P1.1

i set the serial object to [serial c 2400] and send the message [65 84 13] to the serial object, followed by a bang
in the max window i get;
status: write 3
status: read -1
setting the serial object's port to the serial port name - like [serial USA19191P1.1 2400] - does not make a difference.
a few days ago i upgraded from max/msp 4.3 where the same resulted in a failed-to-read error message, so this seems a slight improvement. though i would prefer it if it would work over the serial port.

my problem is that i'm developing on my mac, but the final patch will have to run on a pc where the lanbox will be connected to com1

has anyone used the same or a similar setup? any tips/suggestions/advise on how to further debug this or simply get this setup to work using the serial port?
any help is welcome
thanks in advance

rene
