As I assume you are going to use MAX to trigger cues/chases/shows in the LanBox, there is not really a big difference in using serial or MIDI.

actually, all i'll be doing is controlling a rosco i-cue mirror which needs to reflect a video projection.
i'm not sure yet whether it would be easier to patch the controls fully in max or use cues/etc. the latter might mean a lot steeper learning curve as i don't know anything about setting up a lighting-show....


Via serial has many more possibilities, and has 8 and 16 bit data options.

additional problem is that i'm developing on a mac and will be running the show on a pc. the pc does have a com port, but midi out is through some soundcard that has a "midi"-interface for joysticks (some sub-d plug...) and i'm not sure there will is even an adapter for that...


hmmm hardcore 8 and 16 bit serial poking... haven't done that for a loooooong time... haha
