SubjectRE: [LCtalk] DMX control of digital images

Hi Fokko,

Our UDP ptotocol is public and very easy to implement; The people of Capture sweden made a receiver in about one day. But even then, that would not help as you have a LanBox-LCM which has no Ethernet.

I'm aware that the LCM has no ethernet, but a solution using ByRemote or other software is going to need a DMX IN interface anyway, so this might as well be the LCX (could be used for other stuff afterwards).

Of course it would be great if the DMX Listen part of the ByRemote software could listen to UDP, that would also bypass the software-based DMX to ethernet conversion of the software.

MAX could be used, but RealBasic is also a very good option. In MAX you can make something which receives MIDI trigger messages from your LCM in MIDI mode, and shows the right picture.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with MAX, and lack the time to get familiar for this application. However I've received an offer off-list to have a MAX patch programmed, it's one of the solutions I'm considering at the moment. This would enable a single computer with dual vga output to be used.

Also, someone who uses a few Wahlberg DVD players in his office has kindly offered to do a test of the speed by which JPEG images can be displayed. If fast enough this could also very well do the trick.

If you can pre-program all lighting cues, so your LCM only needs MIDI triggers, then MAX is the easiest way.

Pre-programming all lighting cues will be very difficult on this production, actually it will probably be the opposite. A lot of the image cues can be pre-programmed in the rehearsal space using some monitors, and the light cues will be added during the set up in the first theatre.

Regards,
