Subject[LCtalk] lanbox lcm triggered by music

Hello

I was thinking of using the lanbox in a "party-environment" to control some simple spots triggered by music (no midi, just music). The idea is to have the spots flash on the beat etc.

I thought of writing an app that "listens" to the pc's line-in (that means there should be a cable connected to that line-in from the mixing dj's mixing desk) does some processing of that music, and sends commands to the lanbox.

I have allready some experience with sending commands to the lanbox (remember http://studwww.ugent.be/~jvbesien/lanbox.jpg), but not with "processing music into light".

Does anyone have interesting links to information on how this is done? I guess it is possible to "listen" to the volume, and set dmx values according to this. But I'm thinking of more advanced things like connecting some dmx channels to the "beat", others to the "treble" etc. I guess this could be done by "listening" to well defined ranges in Hz from the music.

any idea's, comments, ..?
