Ok, no problem, we all are very busy ;-)

first, the DMX IN works now, thanks heaps, was also due to a DMX patch in the board that remapped channels before entering the LanBox.

Yep, remapped channels can become very confusing.

I also now seem to have understood the layer "problem", every time I activate a fixture in a layer, even if I don't record the result in a cuelist,
the fixture remains active there and blocks automatically lower layers if they control the same fixture - as happens mostly with "sub" goto lists.
This for me was a huge puzzle as this circumstance is not reflected in the graphical fixture control window on the left side of the layers once another fixture or group gets selected / activated in any other layer.

That's why I advice to use a certain layer only for a certain group of lights only. E.g a fixed (top) layer for flash and blackouts, and a fixed low layer for background groups. For non-moving lights three layers should be enough (use the in-between layer for cues). With moving lights you need more layers as you want moves and e.g. color effects be recalled independently.

My suggestion for this problem would be that every layer reflects the graphical view of the last fixture selected in this layer. For live shows (and I believe this logic stems from live needs) this would make it easier to hand control different fixtures in different layers without having to go to the stage window and select it there first.

We have tried many solutions in the past, but that's giving other problems. In general a computer screen has very limited space, so it will always be a compromise.

I also think that the logic of the layers is not laid out clear enough in the manual and tutorial, I read both several times and still could not understand.

Hmm, did you read the story of overhead sheets. BTW our layer concept is the same as PhotoShop, but if you don't have a graphical background it does not help ;-)

Other than that I am a lanbox aficionado and have enormous fun realizing my second production with it.

We love fans! :-))
