I'll try that. Do I just need to change the speed in LCEdit+, or also in the windows 2000 settings ("apparaatbeheer" in dutch).

No, just change it to e.g. 19200 in global settings of LCedit, and it will re-connect at the lower speed. e.g:
14:35:07 Open P#1USA49WC102
14:35:07 Connected, 38400 Baud
14:35:07 LanBox-LCM, v2.00
14:35:30 Open P#1USA49WC102
14:35:34 Connected, 19200 Baud
14:35:34 LanBox-LCM, v2.00

I have it running for two evenings now at 19200 Baud, without problems. The connection hasn't failed once. It does indeed go slower, but that's not a problem because I just have to press the space-bar once in a while.. Slow screen updates are not a problem when not editing.

I might look for a better serial port, but for now I leave it be.
