You missed a tiny little detail: step actions are executed by the LanBox, not by your computer :-)

I must say that I missed that detail indeed ;-)

But still.. In some way or another the software is "aware" of the current cue-step. When "follow layer A" is on, the software shows the current cue-step. And in the control window, the "hold" and "fade" bars do show the current status of the "fade-process". So it might still be possible to let the software execute "commands on the computer".

I know that it is more logic to let the lanbox execute everything that it is told, but I am wondering if what I suggest is difficult or not. I might be missing other things as well :)

Yes, you miss another very important thing; timing!

Your computer is an undefined way behind what the box is doing, due to the fact that your computer does not has a real-time system, and the latency of the connection between box and computer.

That's why the box can output e.g. MIDI commands for tight triggers, that's also why we working on UDP communication for the LCX.

Yes indeed.. that should be possible. But I find my suggestion more user-friendly (but maybe less programmers-friendly).

For a programmer it's very easy to do your suggestion with e.g. MAX, REALbasic, VB, etc. Just poll some mixer DMX channels, and do a script when certain DMX values are at a trigger value. The idea is to use some DMX channels for PC commands, which can freely be interpreted as command bytes ;-)
