The following procedure produced some unexpected results:
(using LCedit 3.1 for Windows)

- Open a cue step by typing the cue step number in 'Layer Control' and pressing enter
- Click on the red dot to go into edit mode
- Set the cuelist window that opens at this moment to "blind edit" (this seems to be the only way, except for closing the cue list windows, to get the editor into "single step edit" mode)

Yes, unless you have already a layer in edit mode (we want to force the use of the cuelist editor, instead of single line editor ;-)

- Select some fixtures in the Cast window
- Change some channel values in the 'Layer Control' window (NOT in the cuelist)
- The bar in top of the 'Layer Control' window turns red, to the best of my knowledge to signify a change that has not been stored

Correct.

- Click on the replace button
- The bar in top of the 'Layer Control' window turns green, suggesting that the change has been stored

It does here on WinXP, OSX and MacOS

Sometime later i load the cue step but the change has not been stored!

Very strange, can you show us the original loaded cue (copy/paste it from the cuelist editor), and tell us what channels you changed?
