As Jon said, for direct channel control use NoteOns, and yes you can reach all 511 channels, but you need to set multiple MIDI channels to a layer in the Global->MIDI settings. For more info about all MIDI commands, see the included reference manual. Is it also possible to drive more than one layer with one external MIDI controler, like a master of all layers selecteds ? Yes, you can map the same MIDI channel to multiple layers, but that's useless, as only the top layer will be seen. Groups/masters have nothing to do with layers, they are all within each layer.
