SubjectBug or Feature?

Hello,

I am using the Lanbox LCM with the latest firmware revision. Last night I stumbled upon a problem, which led to a bigger problem, which led to a disaster. I later found out that the little problem was frustratingly simple to solve.

When using LCEdit, all the free running chases were working fine. I had set up loops, and they worked properly. When triggering via MIDI they would not run! Only the first step. It would not automatically go to the next step as I had set up. I rebooted the box several times to no avail.

At this point I decided the box must have something screwed up with it. I decided to erase the box and reupload the cues. However, at no time did I ever see a message that told me what would really happen! It erased all the cues on the computer too. This was horrible, I spent all night (11pm to 7am) recreating light programs I spent weeks doing before. (It was easier the second time around)

I realize it was probably stupid for me to assume...But I thought LCEdit kept all the cues in my .lcp file? When I erased the box, all the cues in the program disappeared as well. That was a bad feeling. Only at that point did I find the backup / restore function (a little late)...is it even mentioned in the manual?

So obviously, I made some stupid mistakes, but I do not take full blame. Here is what I suggest:

It turns out the the LCM will not automatically run the chases as intended if you save the file and to the lanbox with the "Ed" button enaged. It seems to leave the box in edit mode?? That way, when I trigger via MIDI it just sits there when the first step is triggered. Can someone verify this? Would that be a bug or a feature? :-)

Secondly, I think that instead of a backup/restore function, the LCEdit program should automatically keep all the settings of the Lanbox on the hard drive in a file. Similar to the backup files, but automatic in nature...it could even create a new file with each save so you could go back in time? Maybe a max of ten files so as not to clutter the hard drive with old versions? That way if I had erased the lanbox, and then saved again in my stupidity (which happened), I could go back to the last version which would automatically be there. This is what I love about modern music sequencers, they save early and often for me!

You can never understimate the ability of an idiot like me to screw something up very badly!! :-)

Chris
