Hi Folks, I am in the middle of setting up an LCX to run a 30 act dance show. The following points spring to mind when using LCEdit (3.03 + F/W 1.08). Disclaimer: Some of these may already be "doable", but I just don't know how! 1. Cuelists a) An extra list or floating window to allow quick visual feedback about the other cues within a cuelist. E.g. for a 10 cue cuelist 20.1 thru 20.10 display a window with each cue. Clicking on a cue jumps to the cue? b) Ability to name cuelists and cues in plain text (even if only stored at the LCEdit end) c) A timeline window that would show the fixtures by activation time for the current cuelist. Use a visual break to denote wait for keypress. 2. Layers/Engines a) Plain text naming (even if only stored at the LCEdit end). It is very easy to forget what each layer does. b) Standardise terminology - some dialogues talk about engines, others layers. 3. Control Panel a) Given a fixture that is set correctly, how do I set all (or some) of the channels as active in the current layer? The little green buttons allow me to REMOVE a channel, but not to add one. at present I have to change each value, then set it back again to make it active. b) Some method for defining one or more dynamic named location/focus for each light such that when I change the named position, all cues that reference it are updated together. Currently I use static presets on each fixture, which is a problem if a fixture is disturbed during maintenance etc. The other way I could do this is a cue per device per position, but I would soon loose track! c) Defaults for new cue list steps - It always seems to default to "show forever, crossfade for 5.1s"; Can this default be changed globally? d) A way of clicking on the trackball to allow the use of the Up/Down/Left/Right keys to position the light. This is half possible by using Up/Down in a channel field, but all four keys would be much easier! 4. Save/Load a) A "Deep" save that combines the current save with a backup? It is not always possible to do a save LanBox data as it stops producing DMX for a while (confusing our antiquated dimmer paks). b) A "Deep" Load that resets/clears the LanBox, and then restores a "Deep" save. The functionality for the "Deep" load & save already exists - This is another "spin" that I believe would make it easier and safer to use. 5. Script editor a) "It would be nice if..." each data step could be interpreted by fixture, even if this was only by outputting the channels for each fixture on a separate line! This would simplify splitting up cues by fixture a great deal. 6. Misc (blue sky :-). a) A trackball addon that can attach to the back of the LanBox to allow accurate positioning for moving lights. b) An LCEdit plugin interface to allow 3rd party plugins to extend the interface & LanBox control program. At the moment a programmer can extend the LCX by defining new FORTH words, etc but there is no way to reflect/control the enhancements via LCEdit. Any enough babble from me - I need to ensure that all is ready for 4 shows this weekend!
