Right.. I misread your suggestion and thought you were talking about fixed patterns.  Apparently you really do want an effects engine :)
OK - I guess I do :-)


While a real effects engine is not likely to happen any time soon, you can already create a moving shape by using a second layer in Add mode on top of the layer that runs the fixed pattern.  You can then control the origin of the shape with a cuelist running in that add-layer.

Is that kinda what you want?
I see where you are coming from (This is very similar to my original suggestion with the layers swapped).

For the scale of shows I am involved in this will prob. do 90%+ of what I need/would like (if layers and origins are juggled carefully).

Of course this does mean upgrading to an LCX to get the 'add layer' functionality...


Almost forgot about the gain.. you can do that too by using a layer in transparency mode set on the origin point.
I don't follow this bit yet. I'll have to have a play (oops - I mean research & development :-)
