Hello. I bought a LanBox LCL about 5 years ago to use as a MIDI to DMX converter. I'm using it with 4 American DJ Mighty Scans intelligent scanners and one Matrix Spot (16 DMX controlled 30w par cans). I bought a Martin adaptor cable that swaps pins 2 and 3 to properly use with the American DJ gear. I'm powering it with a Radio Shack 12v 500mA adaptor. Finally, I probably am on an older firmware, too. My problem is when I program patterns using a MIDI sequencer (Sonar for Windows XP), there is usually up to a 0.25 second latency between the time a MIDI command is sent to the LanBox and the time the Mighty Scan responds to it. So, for example, if I move the mirror on all 4 lights at the same time, there will be a slight slush factor between one light and the next one. I know MIDI isn't the fastest protocol, but if I were to play the same MIDI stream to a synthesizer, there wouldn't be that 0.25 second latency between the notes. Also, I've turned off MIDI clock transmission and all other real-time MIDI messages. At any rate, at first I thought this latency was normal, since I've never had experience with intelligent lights before the LanBox/Mighty Scan. However, I recently bought an American DJ Auto/Mate DMX controller which contains preset patterns and can be used with my lights. When I swapped out the LanBox with this Auto/Mate, the lights responded instantly and in sync with each other, and the slush factor was gone. The only other thing I changed were the channel assignments. Instead of DMX channels 12, 24, 36, and 48, my Auto/Mate required channels 4, 10, 16, and 22. So, what I need to do is get rid of the latency that I'm experiencing with the LanBox LCL as controlled by MIDI. I figure this can be due to a number of things, not the least which might be user error. Now for my questions. First, has anyone else experienced this problem? Could it be my firmware? Is there anything I can do via MIDI to help reduce the latency? Might my LanBox be defective? Would a higher end LanBox serve me better? Anything else I haven't mentioned? Since I'm somewhat of a newbie in the lighting world, I won't be offended with any suggestions that might be considered basic or common knowledge. Thanks, Brian
