Am i correct in thinking that the current version of the LcEdit for Palm OS only works with the Lanbox-LC or is there another problem with this connection? If  the connection of an LCM to a Palm device is not supported at this moment, will it be supported in the future?
You are right, the current LCedit for Palm recognizes only LCII and LC+ firmware. I have a new (development version) LCedit for Palm here, which also supports LCM and LCX. Besides support for the new boxes, it also supports tcp/ip and has an extra page for patching and testing DMX channels.

However, it's not finished yet :-(

The workaround for making split fades is still a bit confusing to me at this moment. I know how to make a kind of a split fade by creating two cues, and putting the first one on hold for a few seconds while fading in/out, after which the the next fade is triggered by the second cue, and the first fade can still continue running.

When setting the timing for a cue it is possible to tick the 'split' box. However the workaround described above seems to work, even if the 'split' is not selected. What exactly does the 'split' function do? (this probably doesn't make a difference, but i'm using LcEdit for Windows)
When going to a new cue with e.g. a fade in, the channels with higher values then in the previous cue are faded, while lower values are loaded instant.

When you turn on the "split fade-in", -only- the fade-in channels are started but fade-out channels are left untouched!

In next cue (show previous scene) can start after a xx delay a completely independent split fade-out on the out channels.

Is there a way to archieve a split fade like you can do on a 'theatre style' console: when i hit Go both the fade in and the fade out start at exactly that moment, but for example the fading out takes longer than the fading in.
Sure, set the hold time of the first part to zero and the second part starts at the same time.

When i try to achieve this by making two cues and setting the first one to 'hold for 0.0s' and giving it a fade in of 8s (example), while setting the second cue to 'hold for ever' and giving it a fade out of 30s, the fade in happens in 0.0s. Is this a legitimate way of trying to make a split fade consisting of a fade in and a fade out that start at the same time?
It should work (if you have the splits ticked ;-) I made an example, cue 5.1 is a normal crossfade while 5.2+5.3 is your split fade :

// List 5(3), loaded 22-02-2003 15:30
 show d01 for ever, crossfading for 5.1s
 show d02 for 0.00s, split fading in for 8.2s
 show previous for ever, split fading out for 30s
