As far as I know it means that you are trying to run a MacOS external on OS X. Are you using the MAX 4.2 beta for OS X?

The OTendpoint external can ONLY be used on MacOS 8/9, as under OSX we need to make BSD externals (Apple's OT is incomplete and hardly usable under X).
