I have the Lanbox plugged into the modem port and the midi plugged into
the printer port.
Maybe I get you wrong, but there should be a MIDI adapter plugged into the serial port of the LC. If you use also LCeditII, it can only be connected via the network (PhoneNet).

You should power up the LanBox-LC WITH the MIDI adapter connected, so the LC can autodetect the MIDI interface.
