That's because by default, the fixtures in a group are "smart merged", which means it will try to merge the different panels as much as possible, and at the end adds the intensity channels of the individual fixtures in the group.

There are actually other undocumented group modes.  When you option-click somewhere in the bottom-left of the group dialog, a popup will appear where you can choose the mode.  One of these modes is "concatenate", which allows you to see all controls of all fixtures in the group, which sounds like the thing you want.

But...

There was a good reason we've hidden this popup.  I actually can't remember what it was... however if you choose to make use of concatenate groups, you might find it :-)
