Well I have to admit I'm stumped. I've been using lighting boards since 1979. I've been using computers and namely Macs since 1985. I've been using LCEdit II since 1999. So I don't really consider myself a computer nincompoop. But four times now I have installed LCEdit + to try and see how it works. And four times, after having spent hours at it, I have given up frustrated and annoyed. Not only does the manual not supply an answer when I get stuck but I can't even get past creating the first lighting effect. All the following ones just seem to erase what I created previously.

It sounds to me you do replace to the same cuelist/step, instead of add. I assume you did use v3.01 as it has a (small) section for theatre people?
Yes the latest version.

Furthermore what is worse, twice I have had a hell of a time trying to reinstall LCEdit II firmware, which repeatedly and insistently refused to upload.

LCedit v3.01 should do a firmware upload without any problems. What OS and Mac are you using? Did you try another PhoneNet cable?
The first time was with a Powerbook 520 and OS 7.6.  The only solution I found was to obtain another copy of the firmware and that finally fixed it.  The second time was with a Powerbook titanium with OS X.2 and running under Classic 9.2.2.  I couldn't ffind any other solution than to haul out the old Powerbook 520 under OS 7.6 install the firmware from that and that finally worked fine.  And I was using the same cables!!

So what can be done? Have you entertained the idea of rewriting the manual? Or rethinking the interface to make it a tad more intuitive?

We working on both, that means we will try to make a tutorial (for theatre and normal use) and we try to improve the human interface each version. LCedit+ v3.02 (to be released soon) will have again a number of improvements.

This is essentiel.  But this list certainly works.  A friend in Lausanne who recently bought the LCX rang me up about 10 minutes after I posted. He promised to sort me out. That's a relief.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Lanbox and am absolutely delighted with reliabillity and ease of LCEdit II and profoundly hope that LCEdit + will overcome its shortcomings but at the moment I just can't work it.

LC+ software has so many more features then LCII, but it is a bit more complex. We try to come as close as possible with the simplicity of LCeditII without loosing features which other users require.
I need those features too but if someone like me can't be up and running after four tries, I think it's proof that the interface is inherently unfriendly.

Am I the only nitwit on this list ?

I don't think so, see previous thread <http://www.lanbox.com/support/Talk-Archive/msg-00719.html>

BTW Fixed steps and split fades are now possible with the LCX and LCM.
