My question is, if I use a European DMX terminator (either the LanBox
supplied one, or one from Martin), will I need to first swap pins 2 and 3

the European DMX terminator function properly without the need to swap pins
2 and 3?
A DMX terminator is just a resistor and is polarity independent. As long as it is between pin 2 and 3, it's ok.

BTW There is not really a European XLR, it's a mistake of Martin (and us;-), which is corrected in newer products. e.g. A Martin 918 has the pinning the "right" way and we have corrected it in the LCM and LCX.  Long live the confusion;-)
